In the spirit of giving you a real reason not to go through with things aside from "it would play into their hands," which I know isn't justification enough some times when you're so angry you want to do things out of spite, allow me to give you another perspective.
We can't control them. We cannot control the Brotherhood or Magneto and if they knew humans had abducted mutants en masse the fall out could be deadly. In order to get our people back we not only need to be smart but we need to be in control. We need things to fall out the way we want and need them to. Introducing the chaos of your mother and her comrades means we shoot ourselves in the foot before we even have a plan.
That said, I understand the temptation. I find both hitting things and moderate amounts of alcohol while giving someone else my cell phone does wonders for these sorts of things. I'm sure you can find plenty of people who have nothing to do right now to help out with either or both.
